I Heart Online Dating

OK, the title is misleading. There are a lot of “hard parts” about dating online. But I found one recently.

I’ve been dating James for a while. It’s been good- great, even- for the most part, but like every couple we’ve had rough patches. It’s during those rough patches that things get tough.

When you’ve been online dating, you always have a catalogue of the other options. And that means that whenever there are problems, you can browse through a gallery of alternatives. It’s totally unfair- the chances are high that all the people online have just as many problems as the one you are dating. But when you’re just looking at a jpeg, it seems like they represent opportunities, and who you’re with represents a drag.

Whenever I’m upset with James, I’ll admit that I’m tempted to send a wink or flirt to someone new. I resist. But having it there doesn’t help…
